Gender-Affirming Voice Therapy

Your voice, finally your own

Voice carries more than words. For many transgender and gender-diverse people, it is an important bridge between how they feel inside and how they are heard by others. Gender-affirming voice therapy works on the features of voice that shape that perception: pitch, resonance, intonation, and the naturalness that comes from all of them working together.

This is specialised work. Gwyneth has trained with some of the leading practitioners in the field, and has been seeing GAVT clients in Singapore — in-clinic and online — for over a decade.

Clinical Training — GAVT

  • Georgia Dacakis Gender Affirming Voice Clinic, La Trobe University

What the work covers

More than pitch

A higher pitch alone rarely produces a convincing feminine voice — and an unconvincing voice can feel worse than where you started. Effective GAVT addresses the full picture of how voice is produced and perceived.

Fundamental frequency (pitch)
Resonance and vocal tract shaping
Intonation and speech melody
Voice weight and brightness
Register control and flexibility
Naturalness under real conditions

The goal is a voice you can use without thinking about it — in a meeting, on the phone, with people who matter to you. Most patients reach functional confidence within 10–20 sessions, though this varies considerably depending on starting point and practice consistency.

Sessions typically begin with voice conditioning and target-setting, move through structured technique work, and end with transfer practice into real speech situations. Gwyneth uses both in-clinic and Zoom sessions, and has found telepractice to be equally effective for most GAVT work.

There is no shortage of voice feminisation content online, and some of it is genuinely useful. Many patients arrive having already spent time on YouTube, which is a reasonable place to start. The challenge is that the advice varies considerably in quality, and without clinical grounding it can be hard to know what applies to you specifically — or to catch habits that are working against you. Sessions with Gwyneth give you a personalised framework, built around your voice, your starting point, and how you learn.

How sessions work

  • In-person, Bedok (East Singapore)
  • Online via Zoom
  • Weekly or fortnightly sessions
  • Home practice between sessions
  • Review check-ins once goals are reached
To get started, reach out via email or WhatsApp to arrange an initial assessment. Gwyneth will discuss your goals, baseline voice, and what a realistic path looks like for you.
